bohemian sunshine

Here are some photos from a mini photoshoot I did with my sister and her friends. The sunshine was absolutely magical (and a little annoying too, talking about you sun flares), and the scenery was something right out of robin hood. So in love with this beautiful world we live in.

Also, what a bunch of babes right? Seriously adorable.

Oops lots of photos. Thanks for scrolling!

January + February Tidbits

Hiii there. I'm starting a new section on my blog, Monthly Tidbits. A little way to focus on the good, and happy tidbits from this neat life I get to live.

I started this in the middle of January but maaad dropped the ball. So here are all the little rad tidbits from both January AND February. I'll probably do these in 2-4 parts just because there is so much that goes on I'm getting old.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
J A N U A R Y
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

>> Morning hikes. Honestly the most energizing thing you could do in a January. Plus the weather was so so nice (unseasonably nice) and you bet I took advantage of it. I was lucky enough to go on a couple refreshing early morning hikes and man it was so nice.

>> Obviously January is the month of "eat healthier. be healthier" and because I'm nothing short of basic so you can bet I did just that. I smashed through Kayla Itsines BBG and totally caught the "obsessed with my muscles" thing. On top of all the bruises and checking my abs (which are now nonexistent) in the mirror, I tried and experimented with so many healthy, AND delicious foods. 100% a believer that healthy does not have to taste gross.

>> One of my goals for the year was to become a morning person, and slowly, very slowly, I'm becoming a morning person. I'm actually learning to love mornings. There is something so refreshing about waking up earlier and getting a fresh start on the day. 1. You have more time in the day (YAY) and 2. It really just makes me feel so much happier and overall better.

>> January was legit the time to "get up and go" Excuses aside, limitations aside, I got up off the couch and did rad stuff. Instead of dipping my toe into life to test out the waters I jumped in with both feet and it was a wild ride.

>> Slacklining. I definitely caught the bug again. I even tried doing some yoga, and obviously that went down really well, and by down I mean actual down, meaning I mostly just fell. Slackining is not only tons of fun but is a great way to improve your balance and your core. Plus its just rad.

Overall January was pretty steller, and REALLY I am missing so many great things that went down but that's all I got homies.

>> Math. Sorry but I just really love math. It's something I've always had a love hate relationship with, but the more consistent I am the more I love it, seriously just a little consistency goes a loooong long way when it comes to math. My favorite part of the day is actually cozying up on the couch with my math book. It's so peaceful and call me lame but man I love it.

>> Learning how to use my camera. I used to only shoot in auto because I had noooo idea how to use manual and in fact, it stressed the crap out of me. I found some great articles around the web about how to shoot in manual and man oh man shooting in manual really does make all the difference. I'm getting a lot more comfortable with the settings and am getting some photos that I'm actually happy with, rather than being stressed from not getting the photos I wanted. I'm excited to learn more and improve my 100% amateur skills.

(okay okay I know what's so great about this photo other than 1. I love it 2. I made it out of focus 3. I shot it in all manual and 4. there is NO motion blur so hallelujah)

>> Spring is IN the air. I can feel it, smell it, see it, and it just makes me feel ALL the feels (spring is my favorite season fyi). When spring is on its way, my little cacti bloom and get the prettiest little flowers! It's the absolute best because a) I don't have to water them like ever. b) they still always look pretty. It's a win-win situation. But also can we just acknowledge that with spring comes spiders and bugs and I'm now living in a constant state of paranoia.

>> Spent some time exploring the outdoors with the fam. Hiked a new-ish trail, played on some giant boulders up the canyon with my little brother, and did some exploring in my very own local canyon with my siblings. Although I didn't hike as much as I wish I had, I still got in some quality mountain time which was great.

>> Spent V-day with the illustrious Kimberly. We did a little photoshoot which you can see over HERE if you want.

>> Ended February with a super chill weekend up at my families lake house. I got there late and obviously I went straight to take a bath in the giant tub, because what else would I do. The rest of the night and the next morning were really laid back and relaxing (at least for me), we then cleaned the house, and went to the beeeeach. we snapped some photos and then we spinned donuts on the beach because, because what else would we do? Anyways, I'm just such a fan of really chilled moments.

>> Life plans. Slowing but surely the rest of my life is starting to piece together. Nothing is really final YET but it's getting there. I'm sure if you've logged onto FB you've seen the obscene amount of "I got into (blank) college!" posts, and although I'm not applying to any schools until next spring, it just opened my eyes to a whole lot of possibilities and got me stoked for the rest of my life. I've also been looking into some schools that I thought I'd never apply to but heck I'm just jumping into life with both feet.

>> While weighing the pros and cons of different career choices I've remembered how much I absolutely love the water, the ocean, its environment, all of it, I love it. On top of that I've discovered this neat Instagram (@sea_legacy) and it's been oh so inspiring. Check it out or else.

And that's it folks!  Thanks for reading! Leave a comment and tell me about something rad YOU did!

and.....HAPPY MARCH! I hope its the best of the best.

best of v-days

Valentines day was yesterday. Hurray. I think Valentines goes far beyond "significant others" but is a day to share your love and appreciation with ALL those that you love and appreciate. Friends, family, your dog, everyone. And man was I lucky to spend it with my asian twin! Seriously she's adorable and I love her to pieces. It was the best of Valentines days, and you know that's right.

Obviously we did a little "photoshoot" because what else would we do? Here are some of my favorites.

Thanks for scrolling! You're pretty neat.

Strawberry Vanilla "Ice Cream" | Paleo, Vegan, Gaps

Hi there. So I have this thing where dairy is totally not my best friend. Its like one of those popular kids that you think are just the coolest and they're like "you can't sit with us" and then you're bummed because you THOUGHT they were "all that" but really they were just all hyped up.

So no dairy means no ice cream and bummer right? What else is going to accompany my tears? I KNOW. The struggle is real friends.

Because my life is tragically void of ice cream, smoothies (which are way better anyways) have become my main home slice. Also please don't be confused by the "Ice Cream" title, its just a way to trick our brains, but its just as good, maybe even better. ;)

Before we get to what we really care about, let me just clarify that I have this love/hate relationship with making food. I burn 95% of all I cook and I never ever follow recipes. I just chop and add and blend until it tastes good and then I rapidly consume it. In conclusion, I have no idea what I'm doing. Whateva I don't currrr. Now to what we really care about.

This is something I have been literally obsessed with lately, Strawberry Vanilla "Ice Cream" (remember its just a really thick smoothie but we're tricking ourselves k).

This. Is. So. Good. I love strawberries, and I love vanilla, and I LOVE smoothies. Here it is, and it's 100% more simple than I make it sound, promise.

All you need:
- Frozen Strawberries
- Vanilla Almond Milk
I use the Califa Farms Vanilla Almond Milk. Perfect for smoothies but a little too thick and almondy and vanilla-e and rich to drink on its own, in my opinion.
- Honey
Make sure its not sugary and chunky because that creates lumps in your smoothie and ew.
- Blender
I use my small Ninja blender. Its so easy to use and also to clean up. Win-win.

The Recipe:
This serves approx. two. (Unless you want to eat it all, I'm not judging.)
2 Cups Frozen Strawberries
1 Cup Vanilla Almond Milk
2 Tablespoons Honey
Blend it up until its creamy and smooth.

Other Stuff:
- To substitute the Vanilla Almond Milk, you could use either Vanilla Coconut Milk, Coconut or Almond Milk with Vanilla Extract, or poison Diary Milk with Vanilla Extract. Your options are vast.
- If you want it thicker, cut down on the milk, or add more strawberries, but it might be harder to blend, you know that stuffs. Also note that if add more stuff you might want it sweeter so you can add more honey. Play around with what tastes good to you, if you want it sweeter just add more honey, you don't want to die knowing you could have had a better smoothie right?
- To make it more "Ice Cream" like, you can put it in the freezer for a few minutes and then scoop it up and enjoy. Don't leave it in there for too long though, or it'll become gross, just chill it for a few minutes.
- Also note that if you use the Vanilla Almond Milk, it will give a very Almondy taste, if that bothers you, you can just use one of the substitutions listed above.

Hopefully that made sense, it probably didn't but c'est la vie!

Let me know what you think. It could just be an acquired taste. ;) Enjoy! :)

blank page

Note: This post is not to be confused with T-Swizzles super fly song "Blank Space" just clearing that up for you. ;)

Hello there. Its 2015. Someone please tell me where my life has gone.

There is something so refreshing and hopeful about the beginning of a new year. 365 days of whatever you want it to be. 365 blank pages waiting to be filled by YOU.

Of course you can just do what I usually do and fill it with lots of chocolate and netflix and your favorite loved one (your bed). Or you could be cool and do really rad stuff. I think this year I'm going to do MORE rad stuff. Live a little more.

I set a few new year commitments....

>> Put health first. I already eat really healthy, and I'm pretty active, but I want to be more consistent with the way I eat and my fitness. Exercise more consistently, get better at yoga, learn to box, stay paleo/gaps. I love the way I feel when I exercise and I eat real food, I have so much more energy and I feel SO much better (obviously bc I'm not eating what I'm allergic to, duh). 2015 I'm going to put my health first and make it a top priority.

>> Spend more time LIVING. Wake up earlier, spend more time with family, less time on electronics, more time outside, create more beauty, love more, give more compliments, smiles, live IN THE MOMENT. Its honestly so refreshing to just clear your head, not think about the future (I'm a big dreamer so my mind is always somewhere else), the past, just honestly LIVE in the moment.

>> Try to not be late for things. Be more on top of things. Time management. Money management. Be more organized.

>> Finish high school STRONG. Really own my education and make this last semester of my high school life the best.ever.

>> Become more of a DOER rather than a DREAMER. Dreaming is good, but its no use if you just dream and don't actually do anything.

I really want to make 2015 REALLY really great. I am determined too.

On top of all that, I am going to use THIS blog more. Yesss that's right. I did say I am going to use this blog more, post more, ya know the stuffs.

Just a few things that I plan on posting.....

- Updates on my new year commitments. I feel like posting about it really motivates me, weird I know. You probably care not a stitch but that's what I'm going to do, post updates about what I'm doing with my new year/2015 commitments.

- Recipes/Healthy tips, etc. (Yay!) Paleo/GAPS/Vegan/Vegetarian, REAL, healthy, yummy food. I need to cook more, I find it really helps me be more mindful of what I'm eating, and its rewarding to cook your own food, plus I actually enjoy it (a little bit).

- Fashion/Outfits/Beauty stuff,  I probably won't do this a lot, but its something I LOVE to do, flip through my closet and mix and match my clothes, find the perfect eyeliner, make a DIY face mask, so I want to share that sometimes.

- Sewing/DIY, I have a book full of ideas for refashioning clothes, ideas for sewing projects, DIY projects (beauty, gifts, decor, etc.), I should put them to good use. I also do a LOT of DIY's and so I want to share this sometimes.

- Photos! I. Need. To. Learn. HOW. To. Use. My. Camera. I am going to make it a goal to pick my camera up everyday, and at the end of the week I'll post my favorite photos from the week or something like that.

- Life stuff. Hikes, trips, travel/road-trip stuff, my life advice/tips, poetry...you know, things.

I really just want to use this blog to post the little things, the big things, the things I love. I also find writing/blogging to be really nice, to focus on the good things in life, and writing in general is just a really nice feeling.

If you have any thoughts and things YOU'D like to see (not that you will or should but ya know, IF you do ;)) please let me know in the comments. I actually really love getting comments from those who read this insignificant blog, y'all are such beautiful humans and I feel very glad that you care enough to read this blog.

Cheers to the new year! I'm excited to fill all these blank pages with meaningful moments. Happy new year! ;)

Love, Wesleigh

conquering perfectionism

Do you ever feel like the first steps in life, whatever they may be for, are really hard and stressful because you just want to make them really beautiful and memorable? Because same.
(Also I just want you to know how hard it was for me to remember the world "memorable" cliche I know.)

I'm SO excited for this blog. I mean, its just like every other blog I've wasted hours on, pouring my deepest thoughts and passions into. Yet it is different. I googled my life away figuring out how to create a blog that was beautiful (at least it was to me) and every little step I completed, I was jumping in my twirly chair yelling at my family, "HEY COME LOOK WHAT I MADE ISN'T IT SO COOL" because I'd done something, no matter how small, that was new and something that I'd longed to be able to do for so long. So yeah, I guess you could say I felt/feel a lot of pressure to create some really freaking awesome content.

Have you ever heard of perfectionism? (of course you have) It doesn't mean "everything is perfect" it means "I will die if everything is not perfect so I'm just not going to do it because it'll never be perfect or I'll do it and it won't be perfect because that's impossible so I'll just feel really lame" I guess I'm somewhat of a perfectionist (haaah) which is why I put off doing something on this really neat blog of mine.

BUT HERE I AM. Typing frantically on my keyboard, conquering perfectionism.

(sorry but I had to.

I always feel like the best way to conquer this perfectionism of mine is to be really basic af.

So hi. My name is Wesleigh. Wes-Lee. My favorite color is the ocean. My biggest aspiration in life is to make a difference in the world. I fall in love every place that I've ever been to. My one true love is Africa. Adventure is my thing. One day I want to have a little farm near the ocean with a sassy llama, equally sassy cows, a mini pig named Hibiscus, a sloth, 6 dogs, 2 grumpy cats, and, you get the idea. I want to have a huge family, adopt a billion kids, and we'll travel all over the world together. I like girly things like makeup and fashion bc I'm a girl. I also like a whole lot of non-girly things too. I'm granola by heart. And that's a little bit about me in 126 words.

So there you go. Please excuse all "purposeful" grammar and punctuation mistakes and WELCOME TO MY BLOG. It's going to be a wild ride. :)

Love, Wesleigh.

P.S. If you love me leave a comment ;) I love to hear from y'all.

welcome!

Hi I'm Wesleigh, and welcome to my new blog! I'm glad you're here. I'm still working out the kinks and everything but feel free to hit the follow button on the bottom right corner and stay tuned for some pretty rad stuff. :)
